week 1 of first grade seemed to be a success with no major hurdles. big sister is getting back into the routine with little resistance. (although mondays are a different story…)
week 2 started today and along with it comes the weekly homework assignments:
spelling – this week’s words are: am, at, sat, mat, man, dad. if she passes the quiz on wednesdays, she can skip the friday test. there is also a grade for work done at home to study them. there is a whole list of suggested ideas to make the learning fun – like making flash cards, typing the words on the computer, writing sentences with the words, writing them with sidewalk chalk, etc.
math minutes – 2-sided worksheet - addition & subtraction of numbers 0-18, skip counting, coin names & values, recognition of numerals & words (1-one, 2-two, 3-three)

reading - must read or be read to 100 minutes per week, receiving a grade equal to the number of minutes logged (no more than 100). we’re off to a good start with 46 minutes so far with 4 nights left. each night, we’ve been reading about marjorie in “the cow that laid an egg”.

Busy little bees down in 1st grade! Hope she's doing well with it and not too overwhelmed. I'm sure it's a big difference at first. I know soon she'll be whizzing through all of it though! Hopefully all that kinder exposure has stuck a little bit! :)
