catching up & looking back

only 8 more days of kindergarten…(sigh) – where does the time go?? what is that saying – “the days are slow but the years are fast”? i have been feeling a lot like that lately.

i am thrilled with big sister’s reading progress, mostly regarding her willing attitude toward reading nightly with me and in her patience to struggle thru a new book and accept help with the new words. let’s just hope we keep up the routine during the summer. she has provided a few memorable “social” moments as well. she is still quiet & keeps to herself, but i’ve noticed her being friendlier to other kids than before. she’ll talk about who did what at school and laugh out loud at her own stories – while dad & i just sit there lost but smiling, thinking she is crazy. she has been testing my detective skills all year & not providing much explanation no matter how hard i try to ask the right questions. here are some of the more unforgettable occurrences:
*coming home with a missing tooth
(missing from both her mouth and from her possession. i had to get help from the teacher for the full story.)
*discovering one shoulder strap had been cut off her backpack
(she saw someone else with an over-the-shoulder bag and wanted one too)
*finding an empty soda can in her bag
(we recycle cans at home so this was her contribution, taken secretly from her teacher’s trashcan)
*learning to ride a bike

because her school life was such a mystery, i tried to go to as many events at the school as possible, but there were a few that i missed. luckily, the room mom created a photo share site so we could all see what our kindergarteners have been up. so, here is what we missed:

fall festival

shoebox parade

valentine's party
snow day

ladybug release
