chocolaty mischief

little sister has been hanging out lately inside the pantry – certainly up to no good. at first, i caught her dipping into the powdered quik mix. she found it pleasing to lick her finger(s) and dunk them into the powder for a sweet treat. she alternates between the chocolate mix and the strawberry. she also likes to sneak a few chocolate chips here and there - i keep them in an old butter tub. they are the mini morsels i use for pancakes on saturday mornings. i thought that is what i caught her doing last night – just sneaking a few morsels.
but i was wrong.

this morning, in the middle of packing lunch for big sister, we noticed a gritty texture all over the pantry floor – it was the strawberry quik mix. i took a deep breath, thinking, “kids make messes. just clean it up, mom…” but then i noticed the old butter tub just sitting on the shelf, not where it normally is, next to the boxes of quik mix. i reached up to secure the lid and put it away, and the tub was completely empty! my guess is she ate 1/4 to 1/2 cup of pure chocolate.

maybe that is why she was still wired last night at bedtime,
despite going all day without a nap.

so, this weekend’s pancakes will be plain & boring…
thanks to little sister.
and the child lock for the pantry door will be reinstalled…
thanks to little sister.
and the quik mixes now have a new home, up high on a shelf out of reach…
thanks to little sister.
