some days are easier than others when it comes to homework...last night i told big sister to pick out 3 books so we could read them. she eagerly obliged, and then asked if we could play some games too. i have a box with math games in it for her homework practice, so she got that out and started choosing what she wanted to do. we went thru addition flashcards, skipping the harder ones - 12+12, etc. she also tried to skip the easier ones - like 0+0 & 1+2, laughing and saying "that's so kindergarten!!"
we were doing ones like 3+4 & 5+2, and i was holding up my fingers and she was counting them. she would always start from 1, then count the rest. i told her to start with one number, like 5, and then add the other to it.
"5 plus 2 - hold up two fingers, then say 5, 6, 7." she said, "oh! catch the 5...then 6...7," where she made a fist with one hand to catch the 5, then bounced the fist along the two fingers.
"yes, that's it!!" high fives all around and a few cards later, she came across 4+8. so, she "caught the 4" in one hand, then held up her other hand (5 fingers) and her foot to make 8. it was too funny!!
i burst out laughing and was like, "what are you doing with those toes???" apparently her teacher had demonstrated using her fingers AND toes to the class, because "sometimes you run out of fingers." i will have to ask mrs. L about that one...
tonight we will start studying the new spelling words: up, nut, bug, hug, mud, tub, bus, fun, sun, rub. she got another 100 on her quiz last thursday, so we're trying to keep the streak alive!
