18 down - 18 to go

big sister’s mid-year awards assembly was today, and she came home with certificates for perfect attendance and all a’s for the 2nd 9 week period, plus certificates for the same for the entire 1st semester - so we are pretty proud. she was disappointed to not get a "star award" - which apparently was given out to those kids with all 100's on the spelling tests.  to my knowledge, only 1 kid in her class got all perfect scores in spelling.  speaking of spelling - - - we’ve thoroughly enjoyed our 3-week vacation from homework, but if we want to start out the next 9 weeks right, we need to get a jump on the new spelling list: time, bike, white, drive, glide, huge, cube, use, tune, flute

the school also sent home a general note about how this semester the focus has shifted from being first graders to preparing to be great second graders. i found this as somewhat ironic, because lately at home i have been prompting little sister about how “kindergarteners do this” and “once you start kindergarten, you’ll have to do it this way.” all of this growth and progress and forward-looking is fine, but i also hope that both girls are enjoying the “now,” being carefree and simply acting their age. there’ll be plenty of time for all that other stuff.
