“mommie, what does benjamim-min start with?”
i thought she might have been stuttering, and since we did just visit with this cousin a few days ago, i replied “buh-buh-benjamin. what letter?”
“no, mommie! what does benjamin-min start with??”
“buh-buh-benjamin…”
“no – no, the other one. it’s like brown cake…the little person!!”
then daddy gets involved. “benjamin? your cousin?? buh-buh-benjamin. what sound??”
“no, daddy!!! benjamin-min!!”
Then – it clicks with daddy. “GINGERBREAD man??”
“yes, benjamin-min.”
(sigh) – don’t worry. eventually, she got it right. at least she understood US saying it wrong, that it was not a “buh-buh-B” sound.
