we got a glimpse into the world of public transportation today as we rode the train into the city. we then got on a bus headed for our destination: the palace of fine arts/exploratorium science museum. we boarded the bus along with a crowd of others headed to chinatown (an intermediate stop along the way to ours). let's just say it was interesting and unforgettable as the 9 in our group tried to get onto the same bus with about 25 others, and the bus had standing room only before anyone got on! we were all a bit shocked & speechless at the lack of courtesy shown, but we fought our way on and made it in one piece. the girls had fun roaming freely from exhibit to exhibit and having hands-on opportunities at each one.
then we made our way back to san mateo (via bus, then train) to meet great-grandma for dinner at her favorite burger joint. the kids were real troopers today, and all week in general. i was impressed with the older cousins at how patient they were with little sister - much more than i am at times! so maybe we'll have to plan another vacation again with them.
