ahhh....sisters

today the girls had their annual check up with the pediatrician.  i must admit that this task was much easier when they were younger and not so aware of what is going on around them.  as soon as i told big sister last week that i would be picking her up early to take her to the doctor, she became worried about one thing: getting a shot.  luckily, neither girl was due any immunizations, so a wave of relief passed over them.  but, it was short-lived, as by the end of the visit the doctor convinced us to get flu shots.  big sister's reaction was the worst, which just fueled little sister’s unease and fear.  in the end – after all the DRAMA – they both admitted that the shot did not even hurt.  so they started complaining about what band-aid they got and how she wanted hers and on and on.  then we got to the car and big sister complained of a headache, undoubtedly brought on by all her crying and anxiety.  i am sure we will laugh about it soon enough, but just so maybe they will remember for next time, i plan to keep this memory fresh – reminding them about how brave they were (not!) and how the shot did not even hurt.  then maybe we can spare the drama for next time, or at least have it be about something else (like when they learn that they are only ½” and 11 oz. apart in height and weight)...
